Beauty: easy festival makeup with Primark prism collection

Beauty: easy mermaid/festival makeup with Primark prism collection

I recently received a box filled with bright coloured, shimmery glitter products- the Primark Prism collection! And now that summer is in full swing, with its beach parties and festivals that allow you to go all out - what better time to play with glitter? I figured you guys would be interested in seeing whether the collection is worth checking out, so after trying all of it, I put together a review of the products that perform best (according to me).

In general, I'm not a makeup snob. Although I have to admit most of my favourites are high end rather than drugstore, I still have plenty of drugstore cosmetics that I adore (most notably the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets). Especially when it comes to crazy colours and shimmer - looks I don't rock on a regular basis - I like checking out affordable options, because investing in something you might just wear a couple of times seems a bit silly. The Primark Prism collection definitely fills a mermaid-shaped void there, bringing shine and duochromes and bright shades at a very sweet price point.

Not everything in the collection is a hit. The hair crayons are too small to work with, for example, and the mermaid lipglosses just look like clear gloss. However, there's a bunch of really cute stuff that I would like to introduce you to.

First, this four-pack of duochrome lipglosses!

Clockwise starting from top left: lilac with gold shift, mint with silver pale gold shift, rosegold and clear with blue shift and glitter. These glosses don't smell amazing, but they are really fun and wearable. Great way to try out the whole mermaid/unicorn trend without looking too cray. The minty shade doesn't do much, but the others all look really magical. I think the four togethere were like €5.

Another item I'm raving about is these dirt cheap glitter/sparkle eyeliners!

I have tried a bunch of bright/glitter liquid eyeliners in my day, and the budget ones almost all had the same problem: they irritated my eye, didn't give an opaque finish, or they crumbled/cracked after drying. These Primark eyeliners do none of that. They stayed bright and comfortable througout the day, and they looked totally fab! At about €1.75, they're a steal. I used the silver in my inner corners, and the blue on the lower lashline.

I also really like these bold glitters, packaged along with a glitter adhesive. You can apply them wherever, obviously, but I wanted to do the less obvious thing and create a grungy glitter lip. Think Kesha.

Yas I love. The glitter adhesive does its job perfectly, I had a ridiculously hard time getting all the glitter off. These would also look good underneath the eye, on the cheekbone - wherever really! I think this one goes for €4.

Finally, the pièce de resistance of the collection: this glitter eye cream palette. So incredibly pretty. How cute would this be as a gift to a makeup-loving kid? I would have DIED if I had gotten this one as a kid.

The creams are not pigmented, they're just pure glitter in a clear creamy base. They don't need adhesive to stay put, which is quite practical. If you use em over eyeshadow, beware though: like most cream/gel type eyeshadows, they will make the bottom layers crease a bit. However, the sparkle is lovely enough to find a way to make these work!

I used the orange/green duochrome glitter (second from the left on my arm swatch) dabbed over a look I created with Urban Decay Naked Heat, and I used  the blue/silvery glitter as a lipgloss. Another vibrant yet wearable glitter look, I reckon.

The glitter cream palette retails at just €6.

In short, if you're still looking for some fun products to brighten up your summer party looks, or if you want to rock the magical creature vibe: Primark Prism is where it's at!

I have been on a sunglasses-buying-binge lately. I don't know why, but this season there seem to be so many cute pairs of shades out there, and since I wear sunglasses 90% of the time during summer, they are the easiest way to lift an outfit to that next level. Whether it is by adding interest, by making you seem cooler than you are, or by hiding bags under your eyes (my favourite tip to not look undead after 24h of travel) - sunnies do the trick. I've gathered up some of my favourite on-trend options that won't break the bank, but will make you look like an insta-model.

Wishlist: swoonworthy sunglasses

My number one fav this season is the coloured lense aviator. This pair is just $7.99 and available in yellow, blue and pink. I have a pink pair as well as a yellow pair - one pair short of an obsession. But you can call it an infatuation. If aviators don't suit your face (I don't look good in most types of aviators either), here are two other options for that retro tinted lense look. These red cat eye shape tinted shades are super cute, only $9, and also available in 5 other colours. The red is my fav though. Would look hella cute with red lipstick.

The other option is of course the round John Lennon type frames! Pink always has my heart, but if you want to keep things more mysterious, go for the brown lenses - both just $6. Best option to hide tired eyes (or a resting bitchface). Finally, the $8 round, white frames with black lenses. Very retro, very on trend, and surprisingly hard to pull off. I ordered a pair off Forever21 and looked like a bug eyed alien, but I'm determined to keep looking until I find a shape that works for me. Maybe slightly elongated into a cat-eye like shape. If you have any tips, send em my way!

Are you still lusting after a particular type of sunglasses?

Beauty: shiny locks with Redken Diamond Oil Glowdry

Beauty: shiny locks with Redken Diamond Oil Glowdry

Let me just come out and say it: bleaching your hair does not make it shinier, healthier or easier to style. And yet, most of us go through with it at some point in our lives, whether it is to try a bright colour, to hide our grays or to go blonde. I'm currently going through a blonde period and I'm absolutely loving most parts of it. I love how I look better in warm based colours now (give me all the rose gold jewelry), and the beachy vibe is perfect for summer.

However, while I used to be able to let my hair airdry and have it look, well, pretty good, this is not the case anymore. My locks look the best by far if I either blowdry for a sleek look, or if I want a more casual look: if I let my ends dry naturally while my hair is up in a bun (great way to get those pretty, beachy waves). I particularly need to baby my ends. Even though they have benefited greatly from the Smartbond treatment I got during my third round of highlights - my hair actually feels and looks healthier than it did before those highlights - I still try to limit heat damage to a minimum by using the right protecting and smoothing products. Hair oil has become my best bud.

I was recently sent the new Redken Diamond Oil Glowdry range to test, and when I saw the results I knew I had to tell you guys about it. Let's take a look!

Beauty: Urban Decay Naked Heat review

Exciting post today, guys! I know I'm not the only one who let out a squeal when I saw the first images of the new Urban Decay Naked Heat release - warm toned eyeshadow has been having a moment lately, and basically everyone loves the Urban Decay Naked palettes. There's something magical about how the UD Nakeds succeed at throwing together a bunch of shades that just work together perfectly, making your everyday makeup routine more convenient, more inspired and a whole lot easier. I own all the Naked palettes (3 and 1 being my favs hands down), and while I'm not much of a collector, I couldn't resist jumping at the opportunity when Sephora.fr put up a batch of these available for sale online before the actual Europe release. So exciting!! Mine arrived in the mail yesterday, and I didn't waste any time putting together a review. Enjoy!

When we got back from California, there were some parcels waiting for me to review, and today I'm showing you the product I was instantly most excited about: the new Dior Addict Lip Tattoo long-wear colored tint. I received the product in two of my favourite everyday shades: 491 Natural Rosewood - a nude/brown tint, and 761 Natural Cherry - a popping pink/red tint. I can already reveal that I have become a fan of the formula, let me tell you why!

Travel: California diaries - Venice Beach

Travel: California diaries - Venice Beach

Time for another instalment in my California diaries! I have totally beaten jetlag by now, and I'm already dreaming of my next trip (Côte d'Azur here we come!), but I still have so much amazing Cali content to share. Today, I'll show you our visit to Venice Beach, Los Angeles.

Before taking off for California, basically everyone who had been there told us that L.A. was a bit of a letdown, that the city was dirty, ugly, faded glory. However, I instantly had a connection with the place. For some reason, the combination of all of those classic Hollywood sights you recognize from movies plus the typically Californian Hispanic influences plus the weird/unique details and murals you spot everywhere plus the bit of grit and dirt the city has stuck to its shiny facade... It just works for me, man.

On this particular day we initially planned to visit Venice beach and Santa Monica first, and then drive on to visit the Hollywood sign and Griffith observatory. However, since L.A. traffic is so intense, we weren't able to squeeze all of those destinations into one day. Bummer! If I were to change anything about our trip, this would be it: to stay a couple of days in L.A. proper (or close to it) so that I could explore more of that fascinating city. Here are some impressions from our day at the beach.

Travel: California diaries - Joshua Tree Park

I still have so much California content to share with you guys, so today's post will show you some impressions from our visit to Joshua Tree Park. I had wanted to visit the park since, even though we're not exactly hiking enthusiasts, I have a thing for desert like scenery. I remember visiting the south of Spain with my family in my early teens, which was the only holiday we ever went on, and I made a trip to the desert of Almeria and I absolutely loved it. Such a feeling of being removed from daily life, almost like walking on the moon, and that overpowering heat makes for a very humbling experience. Many of the spaghetti Westerns were filmed in southern Spain rather than the Wild West, so I expected a similarly breathtaking impact.

gingham new look romper

Ola! If you know me at all, you probably know that I am the type of person who is easily excitable and has a new favourite x every other week. Whether it comes to stuff to put on my lunch sandwiches, songs, TV-series, colours or prints: you can bet that I have a fav. Or, like, 10 favs. I'm just a very passionate and opinionated person OK?

Anyway, I'm having a little gingham moment right now. I have always liked the print, because it just screams summer and brings the girly retro vibes, and y'all know that's right up my street. However, this summer gingham seems to be eeeeeverywhere, and since our brains are wired to aesthetically prefer things we see more often (yep, we're all being brainwashed to be into trends), I have also become like a magpie for gingham prints.

Up until now, the only piece I have acquired for myself is this adorable tie back romper from New Look (also available in pale pink and light blue!) that I bought for myself as a gift for getting a job offer from my dream workplace, but since I love the romper so much, I have my eye on a couple of other gingham pieces. Obviously not going to buy all of these, but I might just get one. I mean, it's my birthday month you know. I always allow myself a couple of "don't need but so want" gifts from me to me in my birthday month.

Anyway, I rounded up some of my fav gingham gear from Shein (still my favourite destination for super on trend pieces that won't break the bank), all between $15 -22. And since I'm very bad at picking just one favourite of anything, I'll just say these are all my favs. I LOVE YOU ALL EQUALLY.

Travel: a weekend in Paris

48 hours in Paris

If you follow my social media, you probably gathered that we spent a lovely weekend in Paris last week, thanks to Toyota! It was our first time fully experiencing the city (insane, I know, since it's only a short 3.5 hour drive away), so when Toyota reached out to me to test drive their C-HR car, taking along my boyfriend and two other bloggers on a little road trip to/through the city of love, I absolutely jumped for joy. I had just been neck-deep into PhD completion limbo, and some time to take my mind off things was just what the doctor ordered. This post is entirely too long, but what do you expect from a first time visit to an iconic city like Paris? Sit back and enjoy the ride!

Beauty: vitamin C Clinique Fresh Pressed review

Beauty: vitamin C Clinique Fresh Pressed review

While I used to think that a simple moisturizer was enough, skincare has become a passion of mine over the past few years. Of course, you shouldn't expect miracles from skincare (you're never going to get a result from a cream that you might get from fillers or botox, if that's what you're after), but as someone who spends quite some time staring at their face while playing with makeup and editing pictures, I've come to notice the small but significant changes made by particular types of skincare.

Today, I'll be talking about Clinique's Fresh Pressed regime, which is basically a 7 day plan that uses vitamin C to clarify your skintone and increase your natural glow. I tried a vitamin C based skincare routine last year when I tested Auriga's Flavo C range, but I wasn't entirely convinced by the result. However, when I received this adorable mason jar filled with Clinique goodies, I was inspired to give the idea another go. Especially when reading the claims!

- cell renewal is boosted from the first use
- your complexion should look brighter after only one use, and after a week of daily application, your skin will be more even, smoother and firmer
- after four weeks, hyperpigmentation should be reduced by about 20% (no idea how they measure this though), and fine lines and wrinkles have reduced by 30%
- after 12 weeks of contnued use, hyperpigmentation has reduced by 30%, and wrinkles by 40%.

Sounds pretty impressive! I only used the product for 7 days, so let's see if we can see those claimed end results.
